Hitchhiking in Germany - 1990
Hitchhiking from Tuebingen to Heidelberg. Great idea!!!
It's a long story better left untold but let's just say the return trip included a truck driver who seemed to speak no known European language except the phrase "Barcelona, zusammen" (Barcelona, together) accompanied by smiling and nodding.
Suffice it to say we got out of that truck at the next Autobahn rest area in Baden-Baden.
Oh, did I mention he had Barbie dolls splayed out spread eagle all along the dashboard? Yeah.
The text above was written by my friend Kirsten (who took the photo as well). She wisely took the train back to Tuebingen.

Happy 4th of July
It's supposed to rain today so this picture is appropriate.
From an entry by Maxwell at apartmenttherapy.com today:
"The 4th of July became a big holiday after the war of 1812 and out on the American frontier, it was the one time of the year when everyone gathered in town from all over the countryside for parades and speeches, and the prettiest girl would be named the Goddess of Liberty, and politicians would get up and denounce the king and men would get drunk and insult each other, call each other Englishmen and get into fights."
Now, that is an insult!
Above is train station in Rhinecliff, NY.
