His Only Victim was a Sign

Last night on the A train...oh, about 10pm...a very tall, agitated man made his rounds up & down the car, and begged for money. "Just a dime?" he asked, over & over.

No dime was forthcoming.

So...he wordlessly tore a MTA Service Advisory sign off the window of our car and threw it on the ground. And then for good measure...I guess to make sure it was really down...he stepped on it with his big foot.

He then moved on to the next car.

He showed us!

This is some sort of Pittsburgh specialty sandwich. A cab driver told us about it and drove us there.

Conspiracy

Why do people seek out convoluted theories for huge political (or even natural) events? What sort of comfort is there in believing "they're out to get us" or "they've planned this all-don't be fooled."

Who is they?

Is it more comforting to believe that some huge governmental or ecclesiastical "they" are out there in the world controlling us rather than facing up to the fact that we live in a world of barely hemmed in chaos and randomness (or sometimes just inept, dull bureaucracy)?

I guess so.

That said--I know THEY are hiding extraterrestrial aliens somewhere out in the desert Southwest. I just know it.
